The “Podcast Mission” is the product and technology team at Spotify responsible for building the best tools for podcast creators. We own the platforms, tools, and features that deliver a great creator experience, allowing podcasters to host (for free!), create, and distribute their episodes, while making money from their art and growing and engaging with their audience.

Our team is also responsible for innovating on the podcast format and making podcasting on Spotify more interactive and engaging than ever before. Some of the industry-first features we’ve launched for Spotify creators and their fans include interactivity (Q&A, Polls, etc), video podcasts, Music & Talk (the ability to include music in your podcast and ensure artists are paid for those plays), and scaled advertising that’s available to all creators, not just the ones who are big enough to land their own sponsors.

What you’ll do

  • Own the product strategy and execution for Spotify’s offering for podcasters, including Spotify for Podcasters and all of our consumer-facing formats (video podcasts, interactivity and monetization features, etc)

  • Directly manage product, design, and insights functions for the Podcast Mission (about 50 people total, including people managers), and partner closely with engineering and many cross-functional teams across Spotify to achieve our ambitious goals

  • Recruit, coach, and grow a high performing (and happy!) team of product, design, and insights leaders

  • Lead our evolution of current products in-market for talk creation

  • Lead the development of new product strategies to help podcast creators build an audience, make money, and cultivate communities with their fans

  • Develop a deep understanding of both creator and listener needs that informs the systems we design for them to engage with one another

  • Collaborate closely with marketing, business strategy, and consumer teams to design and tune products based on market feedback and to drive cohesive go-to-market strategies

  • Ensure healthy and productive product and design teams

  • Be an influential member of Spotify’s Podcast Mission leadership team, representing us throughout the company and being accountable for our holistic podcast offering


Who you are

  • You are exceptionally humble, kind, thoughtful, and a delight to collaborate with – your natural tendency is to have “strong opinions loosely held”

  • You have a proven track record of effectively leading and executing a scaled consumer-facing product – even better if you’ve worked on a product that helps consumers create something or express themselves

  • You have a strong perspective on the future of the “creator economy” and topics such as creator tools, media platforms, monetization models, creative expression, and general internet culture

  • You are experienced at managing organizations with many cross-functional partners and business stakeholders (legal, finance, other product teams, etc)

  • You are an inclusive people leader with a track record of building and managing healthy teams that drive impact

  • You have experience managing managers and growing happy, effective leaders within your organization

  • You have experience leading complex strategic initiatives, and have distinctive problem-solving and analytical skills

  • You are an excellent written and verbal communicator and collaborator

  • You default to action and are able to motivate a team to move thoughtfully but quickly, focusing on real impact for the business and our users

  • Ideally, you are a fan of podcasts 🙂


Where you’ll be

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode best for them!

  • Working hours? We operate within the EST time zone because we work closely with collaborators both on the West Coast and in Europe. Ideally you are located in EST but if you’re able to work EST hours we are open to other locations.

  • Where in the world? For this role, we’re ideally looking within the Americas region (anywhere we have a work location)

The United States base range for this position is 210,126 to 360,217 USD, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays. These ranges may be modified in the future.
